The Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA)

The Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA) is a partnership between the Mineral Products Association (MPA Asphalt) and Eurobitume.

We draw on the knowledge and experience of both organisations to increase awareness of the asphalt industry and to promote the uses and benefits of asphalt to specifiers, policymakers and the general public.

Comment in response to Transport Secretary’s car being towed after hitting a pothole

Heidi Alexander’s experience is unfortunately one that is shared by many and highlights, yet again, the woeful condition of our local roads. Thankfully it was only the Transport Secretary’s car that was damaged. Had she been on two wheels, the consequences could have been far more serious.

Comment in response to DfT announcement re new pothole funding rules

Local authority highway engineers need sustained investment in highway maintenance, supported by a long-term funding horizon and greater transparency. This would allow them to carry out the most appropriate maintenance intervention at the right time.

ALARM Survey 2026

About the ALARM survey

Every year the Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA) commissions an independent survey of local authority highway departments in England (including London) and Wales.The survey relates predominantly to the carriageway – the road surface and structure – rather than the whole highway asset, which includes other structures such as bridges, street lights and road signs.

Mineral Products association

MPA Asphalt is part of the Mineral Products Association (MPA Asphalt) – the trade association for the aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, dimension stone, lime, mortar and silica sand industries.

Eurobitume

Eurobitume is the voice of the European bitumen industry, educating and promoting the efficient, safe and sustainable use of refined bitumen in road, industrial and building applications.
